Notes from Alan Austin - Member of the EM Gauge Society since October 1969: AMBIS was started in 1988 as an answer to a personal need to produce items not otherwise available for the railway modeller. It has always been a part-time operation for me which in 2006 was severely disrupted by the necessity of a major operation. Never-the-less I intend to continue business for a few decades yet! Currently I attend four or five exhibitions each year and operate a mail order service. Although some 7mm scale items are produced, the main focus is in 4mm scale modelling, predominately using photo-etching to produce trackwork, rolling stock sundries and scenic items, which include the Eastwell Corrugated Iron products. My aim is to move modelling towards better fidelity in appearance and operation. In early 2007 there were over 200 items in my range, which I endeavour to maintain, only withdrawing any item that is found flawed or becomes temporarily unavailable through under-estimating demand or requires upgrading. In early 2007 the idea of a web site for AMBIS was purely that, but may slowly be developed. I am one of the founder members of the Group exhibiting the "Eastwell Station" layout in the 1970s and 1980s, since the death of Alan Browning. Although still in existence, this layout has been altered and is rarely seen in public. Surviving members generally now pursue their individual interests - such as AMBIS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Alan will be attending expoEM 2008 at Bracknell on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May.
